We're seeking a future team member for the role of Design Director to join our Treasury Services team. This role is located in New York, NY-HYBRID 4 Days a Week
The experienced Design Director will lead and shape the design vision, strategy, and execution of one of our most critical products within Treasury Services. This role will be pivotal in defining user experiences that deliver exceptional value to clients, driving user-centered designs, and pushing for elegant design solutions to highly complex problems. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in UX design, user research, and system thinking, with the ability to lead cross-functional teams.
In this role, you'll make an impact in the following ways:
Design Leadership & Strategy: Serve as the primary UX and design subject matter expert for our product, influencing design direction and decisions. Develop and implement design strategies that align with the firm's business goals, ensuring design excellence in all of our deliverables. Lead and mentor other designers, fostering growth and professional development.
User Research & Insights: Guide the execution of comprehensive user research, including surveys, interviews, and heuristic evaluations. Define and review user personas and translate research findings into actionable insights. Advocate for integrating user feedback and insights to continuously improve user experiences.
Interaction & Information Design: Drive the creation of elegant workflows and patterns that champion exceptional customer experiences. Oversee the creation of concepts, wireframes, storyboards, and prototypes to support product design goals.
Visual/UI Design: Direct and implement engaging visual styles that drive the value of our products and show exceptional craftsmanship. Act as a custodian of user interface and visual design standards, ensuring an ever-increasing quality of design excellence.
Design Systems & Standards: Contribute to and refine our design systems, guidelines, and standards to ensure scalability and efficiency. Provide thoughtful strategy and insights on how to work with a large-scale design system while maintaining product flexibility and creativity.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Build strong relationships with key stakeholders, product managers, engineers, and cross-functional teams to align design initiatives with business and technical goals. Act as a design ambassador, promoting user-centered design principles and the importance of design in achieving business success.
Thought Leadership & Advocacy: Act as a champion for user-centered design, providing guidance to teams outside the design team. Stay ahead of industry trends, continuously fine-tuning expertise in UX and design practices.
Communication & Influence: Present design strategies, insights, and decisions to senior leadership, driving consensus and buy-in. Foster a culture of innovation and collaboration, inspiring teams to deliver their best work.
A portfolio is required to be considered for this position
This portfolio should demonstrate some or most of the expertise described above. While process is extremely important, a portfolio should demonstrate a high-quality end product that you're proud of leading. A portfolio could include a Figma link that's open to view access.
To be successful in this role, we're seeking the following:
Typically, a candidate at this level has 12+ years of experience and some previous experience in regulated spaces like finance, health or insurance.

BNY assesses market data to ensure a competitive compensation package for our employees. The base salary for this position is expected to be between $139,000 and $273,000 per year at the commencement of employment. However, base salary if hired will be determined on an individualized basis, including as to experience and market location, and is only part of the BNY total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, discretionary bonuses, short and long-term incentive packages, and Company-sponsored benefit programs.
This position is at-will and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, change in geographic location, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
